Genesis 1
The Beginning of Creation
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
v.1
(In the beginning...) The fourth word is God. There are no arguments to prove His existence, it's pre-assumed.
(Heavens & Earth) There is something significant in how the heavens and the Earth are named individually, not 'God created everything'. It doesn't say everything, but it does name everything. The Earth is important and separate in God's plans, from the rest of the universe.
(...God created...) He is the one who knows what this is all about. Any artist will, if they are good, know what their work means, and what it's message is, even if they do not share it. God is in control.
v.2
(...without form...) Jeremiah 4:23-27
23
I looked on the earth, and behold, it was without form and void;
and to the heavens, and they had no light.
24
I looked on the mountains, and behold, they were quaking,
and all the hills moved to and fro.
25
I looked, and behold, there was no man,
and all the birds of the air had fled.
26
I looked, and behold, the fruitful land was a desert,
and all its cities were laid in ruins
before the Lord, before his fierce anger.
27 For thus says the Lord, The whole land shall be a desolation; yet I will not make a full end.
The parallels with this passage are from the desolation & anguish over Judah. As the Earth once was, so it could return, but God's Spirit, this presence in even this scenario, brings hope. The days ti follow show the immediate hope & the message of His Son to come.
Bigger Picture - God always has been. This means He knows things, He's experienced everything that can help you. He knows your despair and your Joy and will be empathetic, not sympathetic, towards you. It is His true relational love modeled from the beginning.
